Ultimate Homes: This Soaring $45 Million Penthouse in N.Y.C. Has Epic Sunrise-to-Sunset Views

The 7,500-square-foot residence on the 63rd floor of 111 Murray Street has a 45-foot-long great room, two terraces, and a 1,400-square-foot primary suite.

Rising more than 800 feet tall with sculpted corners and a smooth, mirrored glass exterior that bugles open at the top, 111 Murray Street stands at the crossroads between the lower Manhattan neighborhoods of Battery Park City, the Financial District, and Tribeca.

The sprawling penthouse units perched on the tower’s uppermost floors benefit from the building’s widened crown with extra square footage. To wit, Penthouse No. 2, with almost 7,500 square feet that spans the entire 63rd floor, is as big as a suburban mansion. And with five bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus a powder room, there’s plenty of room to comfortably accommodate a large family and frequent guests.

A continuous ribbon of floor-to-ceiling windows wraps the great room.

Just off the private elevator vestibule and entrance hall, there’s a library/office with far-reaching eastern views. The dark-stained herringbone-pattern floorboards flow into and throughout the main living spaces that stretch 90 feet from end to end with a Cippolino Nero natural stone fireplace and spine-tingling river-to-river views through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Pocket doors connect the massive living room to a more cozily proportioned sitting room curved wall of glass that wraps around to the 30-foot-long eat-in kitchen. The cerused white oak cabinetry is complemented by black metal trim and slabs of Dover White natural stone that waterfall over the ends of the massive center island.

The primary suite has two dressing rooms, two bathrooms and a private terrace.

A long, U-shaped corridor wraps around the building’s central core, where the elevators and service areas are located, connecting the kitchen in the penthouse’s west wing to the entrance gallery on the eastern side. All five of the bedrooms open off the corridor. Each of the four secondary bedrooms has a private bath, with one of the bedrooms tucked behind the kitchen, making it suitable as a staff suite.

The 1,400-square-foot primary suite—far larger than most apartments in Manhattan—evokes a five-star hotel with a morning/midnight bar in the entrance vestibule and a private terrace with sunset views. The nearly 30-foot-long bedroom is bookended by a pair of spacious dressing rooms and spa-style bathrooms, both with radiant-heated flooring.

The glass tower flares toward its crown as it soars above the surrounding buildings.

The penthouse carries monthly property taxes and common charges of about $30,000, which cover a plethora of amenities that include several plush lounges, a 75-foot indoor pool, a fitness center, a spa/treatment space, and, of course, an attended lobby and concierge and valet parking services.
